DVD Rundown

New to DVD, Tuesday, August 3, 2004

13 going on 30 (PG-13)
Starring: Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer.

Follow the link to my review of this film. I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say that it will be the bestseller this week. It is far and away the best of the movies coming out today. However, I do wonder if a comedy can beat out an action/adventure movie like...

Hidalgo (PG-13)
Starring:
Viggo Mortensen, Omar Sharif, Zuleikha Robinson, and Louise Lombard

In all fairness, I have yet to see this film. I'll probably rent it soon but I'm in no hurry. The trailer just never did anything to spark my interest.

The Black Hole (PG)
Starring: Maximilian Schell, Anthony Perkins, Robert Forester, and Ernest Borgnine

This was a childhood favorite of mine, but like so many other childhood faves, I took another look at it as an adult and just couldn't figure out what I like about it the first time around. The all-star cast and interstellar story arrive on DVD today, finally escaping the black hole that is VHS.

Tiptoes (R)
Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Gary Oldman, and Kate Beckinsale

If you can't find this one at your local video store, don't be too surprised. It is certain to be difficult to find. This film never found a distributor so it is heading straight to video. That means it doesn't hold a lot of promise, especially with these big names tied to this project. And yes, it has Kate Beckinsale in it so I will be scouring the countryside searching for a copy.
